An oldie but goodie from the archives:

“How can NOT cleaning my Guitar or Bass Strings cause neck and fret damage to my guitar?!!”

It’s very simple.  90% of all the junk that collects on Guitar strings, deposited from your fingers, ends up on the bottom of the string.  SO, when you play your guitar with dirty strings you are grinding all of this Junk(oils, skin, acids, wing sauce) into the fret board.

What happens then is the junk migrates and collects in an area where it is not effected by the playing which is where the Frets meet the fret board.  I am sure you all have seen this junk collecting on your frets at some point.  It looks much like a snow bank of black grime. Over time this grime wedges in between the frets and the fret board and pries the frets free of the fret board, causing very costly damage to your guitar.

I unfortunately learned this gem of information after spending $500 to re-fret my Martin.

This experience and understanding was a large contributing reason as to why I developed The String Cleaner.  It is the only device that actually cleans strings for it is the ONLY device that gets underneath the strings.

Stay away from The GHS Fast Fret for it only increases the likely hood of this damage.  Using downward pressure on the strings with it’s chemicaly treated “stamp applicator” saturates and loosens the junk and actually makes it more tacky and abled to jump and adhere to the fret board.
